So...what are you waiting for?? lol

Sisterhood...a celebration of the he{ART}

Why did Charlotte start scrapbooking?

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? When I had my first child I wanted to do something with my photos of him, and I found out there was something called Scrapbooking... Just not here in Denmark! I surfed the internet and saw lots of beautiful pages and thought I would give it a try myself. The bad part was, that NO scrapbooking supplies could be found here - so I had to wait some years to see products in the Danish stores. I orderes my goodies in the big US at first and then I started doing my own pages. (Now we have more and more little scrapbooking stores around this country .... and what a relief!!!).

How long have you been scrapbooking? About 4-5 years.

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? I really love that I can tell my family's story. I love the idea about the future generations will have a chance to get to know us (kind of) through my pages. And ofcourse I LOVE the creativity and the endless possibilities.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? I mostly use weekends and when I have days off work. About 8 hours a week ... but I could use A LOT MORE :)

How long does it take to complete a layout? That really depends on how creative I feel that day! Sometimes it takes 2 days to complete a layout others it takes less than an hour.

Where do you get your inspiration? Mostly online (galleries and blogs), but also from scrapbooking magazines.

Let's learn about Charlotte....

Describe your scrap space: Do you like/dislike it? I like it, but I could use more space. I think it's pretty organized, but I could do better. It's a cosy little room and I love spending my time here. My walls are filled with my childrens artwork. I just love when they do drawings and paintings for me.

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? When I look though my layouts I see that I use a lot of blue/green/brownish colours. Maybe because I have 2 boys - I don't know. I do try to use brighter colors though.

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? I like gardening, cooking and baking. I love to read books and i just LOVE to travel!

What scrapbook magazines do you read? A Swedish one called Scrapbooking mm. That's my absolut favourite. I receive Simple Scrapbooks in the mail as well.

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? It's pretty thick! I have many patterned papers I just have bought because they were pretty - and I never got to use them! Now they sit here on my desk! I try to use up some old papers now and then.

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? I think I'm an organized scrapper.

Anything else you want to share? This is my first time being featured. And it's just so much fun!! xoxo

TEXT Thursday - Week 20

Make a Book Of Me layout and write a letter to yourself to include on the page. You decide when to open the letter again to read it. It can be in months or even years. Write about you being you right now, your thoughts, reflections and everything that pops into your head that you think is important FOR YOU right now.

Thanks, Charlotte, for sharing a journaling challenge with us.

A favourite website of Charlotte's is "Journaler's Junction". It is a blog actually and it has journaling challenges on it. Here's what she said about it:
I have not participated myself, but I think there are so many neat ideas on how to make great journaling on your scrapbook-pages.

A blog that's in my favs is Daniela Dobson's blog. I really like her style of scrapping, both layouts and cards. Check it out!

TEACHING Tuesday

If you're like me, you probably have TONS of ribbon in your scrapbooking stash. I don't know if I'll ever be able to use it all. But here are a few ways to use ribbon on your LOs and other projects.
~ use ribbon to make a flower stem
~ use ribbon as a binding for a mini book
~ create a crisscross pattern with ribbon as a photo mat
~ when creating a block pattern, use ribbon to place between your pps
~ tie a knot in a small piece of ribbon and use as an accent on your page
~ stamp words onto ribbon and use for journaling or titles
~ use longer pieces of ribbon as a 'frame' for your photos
~ punch holes in your paper and weave the ribbon through
~ Use ribbon as a vertical or horizontal border
~ Tie two photos together using ribbon
These are just ten ways to use ribbon. Feel free to add more in the comments section!!
Let's use up that RIBBON!!

A rainbow has to be one of the most beautiful visuals in nature, don't you think!
This is a challenge to use the colors of a rainbow in a layout

...Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet...

1. Find or take some colorful photos!
2. Create a layout. Use as many colors of the rainbow as possible.
3. Use the word "rainbow" or "color" in the title of your layout.

Here are some layouts I've done.

Journalling reads:
Dad, your rainbow always makes me smile. Dear father, it reminds me of the special day you went to Heaven. Your rainbow will always take me back to happy times too, together as father and daughter. Your rainbow says,"hello daughter, I am always with you wherever life takes you." I celebrate you dad when I see your rainbow.

WEB Wednesday

Where do you look for inspiration for scrapbooking? What do you do when your "mojo" or creativity is gone?

This is the place where I am now. I've had a very busy summer and have done very little scrapbooking. I've taken LOTS of photos, so that's a good thing -- I'll have lots of scrapping to do during the fall.

I like looking though online galleries for inspiration. I don't usually make sketches from the layouts I look at, but I do make note of little things on a layout that I think look good, and that I might want to use on a layout. When I am ready to start creating again, many of these little ideas pop into my head.

Here are a few sites that I can look to for ideas:

What is your favorite online gallery?
Post a link in the comments and share it with us.

Sisterhood...a celebration of the he{ART}

Deanne's favorite layout

I asked Deanne to send me a scan of her favorite layout, and this was her response:

I have wayyyyy too many layouts to choose just one :o) So I chose this one as ONE of my favs. It's the cutest picture of my niece and, of course, it's made using Bazzill cardstock (can't live without it!) and Basic Grey (my fav all-time patterned paper company). Buttons galore, love that! The colors are wonderful too! I love working with those colors, but I was blessed with 2 boys, so I am constantly scrapping my sisters and nieces just so I can use the pinks!

I have a couple of tutorial links for you today.

The first is a tutorial that I have at my personal blog, "Am I A Scrap Addict?". It's for an EXPLOSION BOX. I was going to post the tutorial here, but thought I may as well send you to my blog, instead of redoing the whole thing over here.

And the other one, I found yesterday while checking out the "One Little Word" blog. It's a tutorial for adorable paper flowers! I love it and am definitely going to try these!

Here's a card I created ,using a flower:

SISTER Sunday -- August 19th

I thought we'd learn a bit about DEANNE this week :-)

Deanne has been married since 1990 to Todd. They have 2 boys. Nathan is almost 13 and Alexander is almost 16. They have 2 budgie birds who are NOT friendly at all! Their names are Joey and Louie.

Deanne is the person who started me on this scrapbooking journey. She encouraged me to "just start somewhere" and I am glad I did! She is very helpful when I am lacking scrapping mojo, but she won't do my layout for me -- she'll give ideas, but the final say is mine. LOL! She is also very giving with her supplies.

Check out one of Deanne's many blogs! She has another challenge blog called "In With the Old". While you're checking the links, don't forget Deanne's gallery at Scrapping Turtle.

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? While I was browsing the net for other craft ideas, every now and then scrapping sites would pop up. I tried my best to ignore them, but I finally gave in and have loved it every since!

How long have you been scrapbooking? I've been scrapping for almost 4 years

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? I love being creative!

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? Evenings for an hour or so and on weekends

How long does it take you to complete a layout? from a few minutes to an hour

Where do you get your inspiration? a "conglomeration" of my own ideas and ideas seen in magazines, online, etc.
Sisterhood...a celebration of the he{ART}

We have over 20 000 hits!!! "Candy" time!!!

Sometime this weekend we passed 20 000 hits. Wahoo!!!!
And, you know what that means!!!???

BLOG CANDY TIME!!!!

Leave a comment here and tell us what you enjoy about our blog and your name will go in to a draw for a prize. Carla, Susan and I will each choose a name to send a RAK to!

A little more about Cheryl....

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? Browns, Oranges, Blues and Black & White

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? Reading, Traveling (especially cruising) and hanging at the beach

What scrapbook magazines do you read? All of them?? Creating Keepsakes, Simple Scrapbooking, Paper Crafts, Scrapbook Etc. and anything else I find at the store

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? Actually I just purged my stash of about 1000 sheets of paper because it had gotten out of control and I was feeling paralyzed by it all. I gave it all away! Now I try to only buy what I have plans for (so far so good).

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? Totally messy

Anything else you want to share? I am so happy to be part of the sisterhood. I’ve had some serious bouts of scrappers block and I’m so thrilled to have found this awesome blog which has helped me get past it.

Thanks so much for being our "sister" this week, Cheryl! We love meeting others who have the same passions as we do :-)

TEACHING Tuesday - August 14

Here is a technique that Cheryl would like to share with you.

I really love using STICKLES. I think it can take an "ordinary" layout and make it really pop. Stickles are (IMHO) better than conventional glitter because once dry the glitter doesn't come off and its MUCH easier to apply than regular glitter. Unfortunately it's hard to photograph, but there is at least one example here.

.... and here is Cheryl's layout from Week 16. I love the bright colors and what a gorgeous photo!

SISTER Sunday - August 12

Please welcome our newest sister -- Cheryl Molotsky!

Cheryl's gallery

Cheryl's blog

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? My sister was scrapping CM style and gave me my first tool (the CM circle tool which I still have but never use). In spite of that, I was never a CM scrapper. I decided to start scrapping with my honeymoon in September of 2000. My DH used to scrap with me too, now he just “consults”.

How long have you been scrapbooking? 7 years

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? I love pictures, always have. I’m a very tactile person so I am somewhat of a paper hog and love all the designs. I love the tools. But mostly I love when I have an idea and I start to put it together and it all just falls into place and makes me very happy.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? Unfortunately, not that many since I went back to work full time. I try to get 3-4 hours in a week and take lots of opportunities to go to crops with friends.

How long does it take you to complete a layout? My sister in law says that when I’ve lost my mind and am making one of my “insanely OCD” layouts that it can take me forever. Really, I would say 2-3 hours.

Where do you get your inspiration? I am inspired by my friends, my favorite websites and magazines. I get a lot of inspiration from music.

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? Well, I used to have a great room, then my husband started working from home. Now I have an explosive mess with it’s own unique system of organization that is ever changing and which I have yet to figure out. It has taken over my dining room.

Cheryl, we are looking forward to getting to know you more this week!

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? I still cross-stitch occasionally on the evenings

What scrapbook magazines do you read? Scrapbook Inspirations is all I can get my hands on here in the UK at the moment, unless I subscribe

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? Hang on let me go measure………6cm, I just bought a far bit so it’s usually around……….2-3.

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? I can be messy, when I pull everything out, & I'm fighting for space, but I have to tidy up before starting another LO/project.

Anything else you want to share? Thank-you for inviting me to be a sista!! I hope I can inspire others in some way. I would like to know I can make an impression on people!!

SISTER Sunday - August 5

Please WELCOME our newest "Sister of the Week" for August 5-11
Sarah Wilson!

She is a long-time internet friend of ours, and we are glad to have her with us for this week.

Here is Sarah's layout from last week:

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? HOW – I used to cross-stitch which lead to cards, one day I went to buy my usual magazine & there next to it was a scrapbooking mag, I bought it through curiosity, & me being naturally creative, loved it & now I'm hooked!!
WHY –becoz, I can do more with my photos than just kept in a box, no one looked at them & so I didn't take many photos, up to how many I take now anyway.

How long have you been scrapbooking? 2 & ½ yrs

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? Presenting the picture or altered project & putting it on show in my home. I use a book holder & leave a LO there for a week or two before changing it.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? A rough guess would be 6 to 8 -- sometimes more, sometimes less, depends on what we are doing.

How long does it take you to complete a layout? Usually around an hour, 3-4 at the most. Although one time I took 4 days.

Where do you get your inspiration? Magazines, online galleries, my brain when it goes on over drive!!

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? My scrap space is in my kitchen, I have a cupboard that’s just mine, a large kitchen table to scrap on. I like it, but could do with my own room, more space, I love space, one day I will have a room, when the kids move out most probably. hehe

Sarah, we are looking forward to having you share with us this week :-)

A couple of CARD SKETCHES from Me!

I've recently been playing with my "Print Artist" program and have been creating card sketches.

Here are a couple I made last month:

I've been posting card sketches on my personal blog too and challenging myself ( and others) to create a couple of Christmas cards and everyday cards using the sketches. Seeing that the Christmas season is JUST around the corner (yeah, it IS!!!), it's a great time to get started on your Holiday cards!
So , if you create cards using my sketches, leave us a comment and a link to your creations so we can check it out!
*If you'd rather use these as layout sketches, feel free! I think they would work as layout sketches too!

Laura's scrap space...

Describe your scrap space. Do you like/dislike it? I have a small room in the basement where I scrap. I love having my own space where I can leave things out & not worry. It has lots of cool storage & three work stations. However, since I don’t need to clean it up, it tends to be a big mess most of the time. I also don’t like that it is away form my family. In order to scrap I need to kind of cloister myself up down there.

What are your favourite colours to scrapbook with? I tend to reach for green quite a bit in my scrapping. I also keep lots of black & white cardstock on hand. I really love color so as far as I am concerned it is all good.

Do you enjoy other crafts and/or hobbies? I am a crafty girl so I sew a bit, I draw & paint, I do face & body painting, & really anything that strikes my fancy. I have four kids so crafts are always a part of our lives.

What scrapbook magazines do you read? OK I am embarrassed to admit this, but I have subscriptions to Memory Makers, Creating Keepsakes, & Simple Scrapbooks. I also have been known to buy Paper Crafts & some of the Australian magazines when I see them in the store. It truly is an obsession.

How thick is your cardstock and paper stash? I have them in racks in my basement. If I had to guess…I would say 3 inches of cardstock & 12 inches of pattern paper.

Are you an organized or messy scrapper? Definitely I am messy with dreams of being neat.

Anything else you want to share? I am really excited to have discovered so many scrap related blogs. This has opened up a whole new side of the craft for me. The challenges & ideas that you can find really push you outside of the box. What fun it is to try new things.

Get some pics of you doing some things you ENJOY or LIKE doing (for me, it would be hanging clothes out on the line)and then get pics of you doing some of things you HATE doing (for me, it would be washing dishes! haha!)

TEXT Thursday - August 2

Do you speak pig latin? When my sisters and I get together, it's inevitable that we will at some point start talking in pig latin. We can speak it quite well -- we drive our kids and husbands crazy :-)

Here's a website that you can change any other website to pig latin. Actually, there are several dialects you can use. Very funny! I especially like the "redneck" and "Elmer Fudd" versions.

You can also type in some text and have it chaneged to the different dialects. Try it out!

Let's learn more about Laura.....

How/Why did you start scrapbooking? I went to a stamping party where we made a scrapbook page & it seemed like a great way to preserve my memories. I think it was natural for me since I was a graphic artist.

How long have you been scrapbooking? Over 11 years, but only truly addicted as an art form for the last four years.

What is it about scrapbooking that you really love? I love that scrapbooking is a creative outlet for me that serves a purpose. I get to be creative & play, but in the end my family has a beautiful keepsake.

How many hours a week do you scrapbook? This seems crazy, but between 10 & 20 hours squeezed in here & there,

How long does it take you to complete a layout?
It really depends. I have layouts that come together in 20 minutes & then some that have sat on my table for over a week. I would say on average less than one hour.

Where do you get your inspiration? I am inspired by life. I see things all around me that make light bulbs go off. I also love idea books & surfing galleries online.

WEB Wednesday - August 1

Laura sent in a couple of her favorite scrappy sites.
The Untamed Scrapper (I especially like the Sketch It! part of the site)
Scrappin' Mojo

Here's an interesting site I found while surfing :-) It's all about writing great blog posts.
copyblogger -- 5 Simple Ways to Open Your Blog Post With a Bang. I read it, but I didn't follow it. LOL!

And another site, totally unrelated to scrapping - Cool Running Couch-to-5K Running Plan
Seems interesting!
